Why stay on a Walker Bay wine farm?

Walker Bay is a coastal cool-climate wine region. Sea breezes shape the wines that made Hemel-en-Aarde famous, and the same breeze shapes how you sleep: quieter nights than Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, gravel farm roads after dark, and a longer drive from Cape Town (roughly 90–120 minutes via the N2 and R43).

The stay mix is cottage-heavy. Most verified farms offer self-catering cottages or villas with a braai; a few add a restaurant, pool or spa. Glamping appears at Stanford Hills via AfriCamps. Exclusive-use houses suit groups. Hotel-style rooms are rare — Springfontein’s River Lodge and Arcangeli’s suites are the main exceptions, and the Bot River Hotel affiliated with PaardenKloof is temporarily closed / under renovation.

Whale season (roughly June to November) and December holidays fill Hermanus early. Book on-farm stays first if you want vineyard mornings and a short hop to tasting rooms.

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate. Twelve architect-designed lagoon villas plus exclusive-use Benguela Manor on a gated estate with restaurants and lagoon access. Properties: Swallows Rest, Tidesong, Utopia, Vine & Vale, Lavender Dreams, Milk & Honey, Oceanique, Oceans Away, Azure Retreat, Sea Whisper, Coastal Retreat, Lagoon Ocean Lodge, Benguela Manor. Villas typically sleep 6–10; the Manor up to 20. Several units are wheelchair-friendly; private pools and hot tubs are common. Minimum two nights for villas. Barton Vineyards. Five Tuscan villas with private pools and wood-fired hot tubs plus pet-friendly Hoepoe Cottage facing Kogelberg. Properties: Plover Villa, Heron Villa, Blue Crane Villa, Hammerkop Villa, Dove Villa, Hoepoe Cottage. Wine tasting on estate; rates not published — book via estate calendar.

Wildekrans Wine Estate. Nine country cottages (Endless Vineyards Boutique Lodge) between vines and a plum orchard on the Botrivier: eight two-bedroom units and one three-bedroom. Pool, restaurant, tasting, MTB and horse riding. Rates on request.

Beaumont Family Wines. Three restored self-catering cottages on Compagnes Drift (capacity tiers sleeps 2, 4, and 6/7 — trade names not published). Kids welcome; no pets. 2026 rates from R2,100 per cottage per night (sleeps 2); sleeps 4 from R3,300; sleeps 6/7 from R4,500. May–August 2026 special: stay three nights, pay for two.

Arcangeli Wines. Guest rooms plus Room 5 among Hottentots-Holland foothills, with The Family Restaurant on site. Breakfast included; air-con, Wi-Fi, private patios; under-6s free. Official rates undated at check — enquire.

Boschrivier. Five self-catering units sleeping 36: Manor House, Cottage, Old School House, Shed and Cellar. Dam swimming, canoeing, hiking, MTB; pets by request. Rates on request.

Genevieve MCC. Eagle Owl Cottage and Peacock Cottage (four guests each) on Klein Botrivier Farm, two-night minimum beside the MCC tasting room. Official rates undated — enquire.

Hemel-en-Aarde

Moya's Vineyard. Exclusive-use Moya's Farmhouse and The Barn for up to 20 (seven bedrooms) with Hangklip views, daily servicing, solar/battery backup and spa on request. Haute Grandeur 2025 Best Self-Catering Africa award. Rates on enquiry.

Spookfontein Wines. Blue Crane Cottage and Sunbird Cottage — two-bedroom self-catering units with fireplaces, valley views, restaurant and tasting on farm. Rates by enquiry.

Creation Wines (Limited). Die Voormanshuis — single eco cottage for two on Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, with kitchenette, wines in the fridge, firewood and two mountain bikes. 2026 from R4,400 per cottage per night; multi-night packages published. Limited = one cottage.

Stanford and the Klein River

Stanford Hills Estate. Manor House, Brunia Cottage, Sylvia Cottage, Vineyard Villa 1, Vineyard Villa 2, plus AfriCamps at Stanford Hills (10 tents, AfriCamps-operated). Pet-friendly; Manor pool; hot tubs common; villa solar backup; Casa Cello restaurant on site. Official rate ranges undated — enquire.

Stanford Valley Wines. Sixteen cottages and rooms: Stables, Pincushion + Bluebell, Protea, Milkwood, Waterblom, Erica, six Fynbos rooms and four Sagewood rooms. Manor House restaurant, Poplar Country Spa, pool, swimming dam and guest-only MTB trails. Waterblom: age 12+, two-night minimum. 2026–2027 tariff (1 Oct 2026 – 30 Sep 2027) from R2,500 per room per night; Erica R2,900; two-bed cottages R5,200; Waterblom R7,500; breakfast +R300 pp.

Springfontein Wine Estate. Springfontein River Lodge (eight rooms) on 500 m+ of Klein River frontage, Riverside Suites (Gadda da Vida, Child in Time, Dark Side of the Moon), Milkwood Cottage and Fisherman's Cottage. Pool; Wortelgat dining on site. Rates on request.

Vaalvlei (Goodluck Homestead). Goodluck Farmhouse (sleeps 8), Goodluck Garden Cottage (sleeps 4) and Vineyard Cottage (two adults, wood-fired hot tub). Off-grid regenerative farm. Rates not published.

Gabriëlskloof (Limited). Single 1910 Gabriëlskloof Farm House — three en-suite bedrooms, kitchen and braai beside the restaurant. Rates by enquiry.

Stuart Family Vineyards (Limited). Silver Teal Lodge (Natimby) — one off-grid eco lodge sleeping four on a Bot River polo farm, with eco hot tub and 360° views. Official rate undated — enquire.

PaardenKloof Estate (Limited — temporarily closed / under renovation). Bot River Hotel rooms are “Coming Soon” / under renovation as of 5 October 2026. Wagon Road 1890 restaurant and PaardenKloof tasting room are open. Town hotel affiliated with the estate — not on-farm cottages. Confirm reopening on bothot.co.za before booking.

Eerste Hoop (Limited). A cottage is claimed on a secondary directory but not confirmed on the official site (no accommodation page). Lead only — verify with the farm before planning.
