Full-Day Wine Tours from Cape Town

What a full Winelands day tour usually covers — pace, lunch and return times.

Last checked: 6 October 2026

A full day wine tour Cape Town outing is the classic Winelands day: collected after breakfast, three or four estates, a long lunch somewhere with a mountain view, and home in time to put your feet up. Most full days run eight to ten hours door to door. This guide focuses on the shape of the day — when you leave, when you get back, how many estates you'll realistically visit, and whether lunch and tastings are in the price — so you can pick the one that fits your holiday.

How we checked this

All tours were checked on the operators' official websites on 6 October 2026. Prices are copied exactly with their year, basis and whether tastings are included. Where a page shows no year, we flag it. Times are as published and can shift with traffic and estate bookings.

What a typical full day looks like

  • 08:00 to 10:00: hotel pickup in Cape Town (later on some tours).
  • Late morning: first and second estates, often with a cellar tour or a cheese or chocolate pairing.
  • 13:00 or so: lunch at a wine estate, either included or for your own account.
  • Afternoon: one or two more tastings.
  • 17:00 to 18:30: back in Cape Town.

Four estates is the norm on scheduled tours; three is common on private days, leaving time for a slow lunch. If that sounds like a lot of wine, it is: spitting is perfectly acceptable. See how many wineries in one day and how wine tasting works.

A full day without the long drive: Constantia

If you'd rather not spend two hours on the motorway, Constantia, on the city's southern side, makes a full day with far less driving:

  • Wine in the Cape — Classic Constantia Tour (private): three or four of Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting and Beau Constantia, 09:00 to 17:30, on the same 2026 per-person scale as its Winelands private tour (from R2,500 per person for 7+; R5,500 per person for 2), tastings included, lunch own account. Classic Constantia
  • Wine Tours South Africa — Cape Town & Constantia (private): Constantia Glen, Buitenverwachting and Steenberg with platters, a cellar experience and sabrage, 10:00 to 18:30, on the same per-person scale as its Stellenbosch private tour (no year shown). Constantia private

Note that tastings and lunch are NOT included on this one; you pay at each estate. 18+ only. Full-Day Constantia
  • The Constantia Wine Tour — Constantia Classic and Ultra-Premium full days (private): about seven hours from Cape Town accommodation, with premium tastings at three farms and a sit-down three-course lunch with wine of your choice included. Full days with a twist

  • The Franschhoek Wine Tram with a Cape Town transfer. Hop-on is R350 per person adult (2026), transport only, with estate tastings R60 to R260 per person extra. The chauffeured transfer from Cape Town is a per-vehicle add-on quoted in the booking flow. Inclusive Tram days (Flavours of the Vine, Curated, Exceptional) bundle tastings and food. All in the Wine Tram guide.
  • A full-day e-bike ride. Bike & Hike's private Franschhoek day collects from Cape Town and includes three tastings and lunch, from R3,200 per person (2026). Details in e-bike wine tours.
  • An airport-to-hotel day. Africa Moja Tours & Safaris runs a private Full Day Cape Winelands Tour that can start at Cape Town International Airport, with luggage kept in the vehicle: 08:00 to about 15:00, three tastings and a cheese tasting included, lunch excluded. Its airport page quotes from R5,000 per person (2026), while the tour page shows a US-dollar figure, so confirm the price in writing. Africa Moja Winelands tour
  • Vine Hopper's private tour from Cape Town or Stellenbosch, about 7.5 hours with four tastings included and lunch excluded, from R6,100 per group (2026, 1–2 guests; R7,520 for 2 guests from 2 November 2026). See private wine tours.

Picking the right full day

  • You hate early mornings: Wine Tours South Africa's 10:00 pickup.
  • You want to know the exact estates in advance: Wine Flies, Wine in the Cape's shared tours, Wine Tours South Africa and Wine Tours Cape Town publish named routes.
  • You want to see three regions: African Story or Wine Tours Cape Town's daily tour.
  • You want a long, unhurried lunch: a private day with lunch on your own account, or My Wine Tour's Franschhoek day built around a long lunch.
  • You're sightseeing hard the next day: choose a tour back by 17:00 to 17:30 rather than 18:30.
  • Your group has non-drinkers: My Wine Tour's non-alcoholic variant, or read non-alcoholic options on wine tours.

Pace yourself

A full day is a marathon, not a sprint. Eat a proper breakfast (what to eat before wine tasting), drink water between estates, and spit when you like. Wear comfortable shoes for cellar steps and gravel (what to wear on a wine tour). If the day sounds too long, a half-day wine tour or a night in the Winelands (/places-to-stay) makes it gentler.

FAQs

How long is a full-day wine tour from Cape Town?

Usually 8 to 10 hours door to door. Wine Flies and Wine in the Cape's shared tours run about 08:00 to 17:30; Wine Tours South Africa's runs 10:00 to 18:30.

Is lunch included on full-day wine tours?

On most scheduled shared tours, yes (Wine Flies, Wine in the Cape, African Story, Wine Tours Cape Town, Wine Tours South Africa). never@home's Friday tour excludes lunch. On private tours it varies: My Wine Tour and Wine Tours Cape Town's master cheese route include it; Wine in the Cape, Wine Flies, Wine Tours South Africa's private and Wine Desk leave it to you.

How many wine farms will we visit?

Scheduled shared tours usually visit four. Private days tend to visit three, with more time at each.

How much does a full-day wine tour cost?

Shared seats range from R1,690 per person (Wine Tours South Africa, no year shown; never@home, 2026, lunch extra) to R2,280 per person (Wine in the Cape, 2026). Private full days for two range from R2,950 per person (My Wine Tour, 2026, lunch included) to R6,289 per person (Wine Flies, 2026). Wine Desk charges R6,655 per group for 1 to 3 guests (no year shown), with tastings extra.

Can children come on a full-day tour?

Several shared tours are 18+ (Wine Tours South Africa, Wine Tours Cape Town). Private tours are more flexible: Wine Desk publishes child rates and Wine Tours Cape Town welcomes children on private days.

Can I bring my dog?

Not on shared tours, and private operators don't publish dog policies. For a day out with your dog, plan around dog-friendly wine farms in the Western Cape.
