Tulbagh · Western Cape
Twee Jonge Gezellen (Krone) is a wine farm in Tulbagh, Western Cape. About 98 km from Cape Town.
Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate in Tulbagh is the historic home farm of Krone, South Africa’s vintage-only Méthode Cap Classique house. Treat House of Krone / Krone Cap Classique and Twee Jonge Gezellen (TJG) as one visitor destination: sparkling-wine tastings, terrace views toward the Saronsberg mountains, and—uniquely—Africa’s first underground cellar still used for traditional riddling and long lees ageing. Do not invent champagne-house award catalogues or Diners Club victory lists into evergreen SEO; stick to the brand history and visitor mechanics Krone publishes on its live site.
Legacy URL houseofkrone.co.za was unreachable during research (connection failures / server errors). The live brand and tasting experience is published on https://krone.world/—use that for hours, flights, and bookings. Prefer info@krone.world and +27 23 230 0680 from krone.world visit blocks. Older Wined listings still show info@tjg.co.za and houseofkrone.co.za; treat those as secondary until the legacy domain recovers. Seed brief website http://www.houseofkrone.co.za should be corrected to the live Krone storefront.
Official Krone history places TJG in the northwest corner of the Tulbagh wine region among early-1700s farms opened when Willem van der Stel pushed settlement into the Winterberg / Witzenberg / Roodezand frontier. The estate became wine-producing in the twentieth century and is credited in brand storytelling with pioneering cold fermentation in the 1950s among other technical firsts. The 1969 Tulbagh earthquake delayed Cap Classique ambitions; the first Krone Borealis vintage (1987) was released in 1991, described as birthing a new generation of Cap Classique.
Family narratives on secondary directories mention Nicky Krone’s MCC passion, later generations Matthew and Luke, and multi-generation farm-worker continuity—useful colour for context, but visitor planning should follow krone.world operational pages, not directory hours that conflict with the live booking system (some older grids still show weekday 09:00 opens that the current reservation page does not).
In 2017 the historic estate was reimagined with interiors inspired by heritage architecture and circular, earth-friendly materials, featuring custom pieces by designers such as Gregor Jenkin, Laurie Wiid, and Meyer von Wielligh. Official renovation copy states the farm is open to the public for tastings as well as cellar and gallery tours.
TJG claims the honour of Africa’s first underground cellar. Bottles rest in coves and are hand-turned in traditional pupitres while Cap Classique matures on the lees—Krone states maturation from a minimum of about a year up to 16 years and beyond. Underground tasting slots are limited to a maximum of 10 people, with published session starts at 10:00, 12:00, and 14:00. Underground flight options on the tasting page are priced at R150 for Site Specific Series or Ancient Future selections—confirm live prices when you book, because menus rotate with vintage releases.
From the official tasting-room page (krone.world tasting room 2026 content):
Reservation required—Krone implemented a booking system to protect the tasting-room and terrace experience. Cashless only. Book via the official “Book a Tasting” flow (Dineplan widget linked from krone.world) or start at https://krone.world/pages/tasting-room-2026.
Official flights at research time:

Vintage years on the menu rotate—quote the structure, not a permanent SKU bible. Vertical tasting language also appears for journeys through older vintages expressing site, soil, and weather across time in bottle; ask when booking whether Standard, Premium, or vertical formats are available on your date.

No restaurant or on-estate hotel product is marketed on the checked Krone visit pages—plan meals in Tulbagh. Gallery and cellar tours are stated alongside tastings; request them in your booking notes rather than assuming free walk-throughs after a Discovery flight.
1. Book a flight online before you leave Cape Town or the Breede River valley—walk-ins are not the model. 2. Arrive cashless-ready; do not rely on ATM cash at the farm gate. 3. Choose underground cellar only if your group is ≤10 and you can hit a 10:00 / 12:00 / 14:00 slot. 4. Allow terrace time for Saronsberg views—the design brief intentionally frames the outdoors as part of the experience. 5. Re-check Sunday policy after 1 November and public-holiday hours near Christmas / religious holidays. 6. If combining with Theuniskraal or Tulbagh Winery still-wine stops, put Krone on a fixed reservation and build still-wine walk-ins around it.
Krone is a Cap Classique specialist destination, not a full-spectrum still-wine supermarket. That focus is the point: vintage-only bubbles, site-specific Blanc de Blancs stories, and an underground cellar few Cape farms can match.
Prefer krone.world—legacy domain was down during research.
No—reservation system in force.
Product is vintage-only Cap Classique; ask hosts about non-alcoholic options rather than inventing them.
Book the dedicated underground slots / flights—limited capacity and separate from a simple terrace Discovery tasting unless your booking says otherwise.
