Graceland Vineyards is a wine farm in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. About 39 km from Cape Town.
Graceland Vineyards is a family-run boutique winery on Stellenrust Road, Stellenbosch, specialising almost exclusively in red wine. The 18-hectare farm sits on Helderberg slopes in the prestigious zone often linked to Stellenbosch’s Golden Triangle red-wine reputation — warm days, moderating influences and soils that favour Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz. On Stellenbosch Wine Route geography it is indexed under Stellenbosch Berg, convenient between Stellenbosch town and the Somerset West / Helderberg side of the region.
Owned by Susan and Paul McNaughton, Graceland has been crafting wine under the family label since the late 1990s. It is the opposite of a corporate cellar door: small plantings, vineyard-led decisions, low-intervention cellar work, and visits that happen when the family can host you — typically by appointment.
Paul and Susan bought the farm in 1990. Susan is the driving force as winemaker, viticulturist and marketer; Paul handles administration and finance. At harvest, the official story goes, everyone helps — including the dogs. Two single-varietal wines, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, launched with the 1998 maiden commercial vintage; Shiraz and the flagship blend The Three Graces followed in 2002.
Planted area has been described as roughly 4 hectares Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5 hectares Merlot and 3.5 hectares Shiraz — a red-only route chosen because soil, climate and slope parameters of the property favour those cultivars. That focus is the farm’s identity: visitors should not expect a white-wine flight.
The Three Graces name draws on classical imagery of beauty, charm and joy (the brand has referenced the artistic tradition of the Three Graces). On the bottle it stands for elegance, complexity and balance in a Helderberg red blend.
Graceland’s philosophy starts in the vineyard: no insecticides, minimal spraying, careful pruning and canopy work, and deliberately limited yields so grapes reach concentration rather than volume. Picking is decided in small batches by microclimate — rows ripen on different clocks, and harvest follows that reality.
In the cellar the approach stays natural: grapes and nitrogen as the stated toolkit, with sulphur dioxide levels considerably lower than average. Fruit is destemmed into open fermenters; skins are hand-plunged four times a day; after about eight days the wine is pressed, free-run and pressings combined, then racked to oak barrels where malolactic fermentation completes. Visitor accounts and estate messaging also note extended barrel time (often discussed around two years), with little or no fining and filtration — wines left as unforced expressions of site.
The result is a boutique Stellenbosch Berg red portfolio aimed at drinkers who care how the wine was grown as much as how it scores.

Pricing in older visitor write-ups placed quality reds in an accessible boutique band; always confirm current vintages and prices when you enquire — small producers sell out.
Official gracelandvineyards.com emphasises contact forms, email and WhatsApp rather than a walk-in price list. Tertiary sources (Tracks4Africa, wine blogs, directories) consistently describe tastings as appointment only, with some noting weekday patterns and weekend/public-holiday closure — treat those as historical guidance, not a guarantee.
Contact channels published on current brand pages:
Prior booking is essential. Tastings are often intimate and may be hosted by Susan herself — bring curiosity about viticulture and cellar technique, not only a selfie checklist. Some older listings mention B&B or self-catering cottage accommodation and garden/tennis amenities; confirm any lodging directly, as boutique farms change guest offerings over time.
Practical note for day-trippers: do not add Graceland to a tight Saturday circuit unless your appointment is confirmed in writing. Pair it with nearby Stellenbosch Berg / Helderberg estates that publish open hours so your day still works if schedules shift.
Graceland suits travellers who want:
It is a poor fit for large unannounced groups, white-wine seekers, or visitors who need a restaurant on site. Eat in Stellenbosch or along the R44 / Helderberg strip before or after your booked tasting.
No reliable walk-in offering is published; book by email or WhatsApp first.
The farm specialises in reds — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and blends such as Three Graces.
Susan McNaughton is winemaker and viticulturist; Paul McNaughton manages farm administration.

Stellenbosch is the flagship Wine of Origin district of the Cape: granite mountains, university town, and the densest cluster of visitor-ready wine farms in the country.
