Franschhoek Wine Tours
Tour Franschhoek by tram, tuk-tuk, private driver or shared day tour — compared fairly.
Last checked: 6 October 2026
Franschhoek is the Cape's most compact wine valley: one main road, a village full of restaurants, and estates stacked up the mountain slopes on both sides. That makes a Franschhoek wine tour unusually varied. You can ride the famous Wine Tram, zip between farms in a private tuk-tuk, pedal on an e-bike, or come out from Cape Town on a guided day tour. This page helps you choose between them, and points to our detailed guides where a format has its own page.
How we checked this
Every operator here was checked on its official website on 6 October 2026. Prices are copied exactly with year, basis and whether tastings are included. Where an estate on a route has a closure or a temporary change, we flag it each time it comes up.

Riding the Wine Tram
The Wine Tram is the valley's signature day out: a mix of open-air tram and bus on five colour-coded hop-on lines.
- Red (village classics): Mont Rochelle, Haute Cabrière, Lynx, Eikehof, Rickety Bridge, Grande Provence, Franschhoek Cellar. Mont Rochelle's tasting room has been operating temporarily from Miko during construction, and its Country Kitchen restaurant is being refurbished.
- Blue (west valley): La Bri, Holden Manz, Maison, Paserene, Klein Goederust, Grande Provence, Franschhoek Cellar, Rickety Bridge.
- Pink (mountain side): Rickety Bridge, Grande Provence, Franschhoek Cellar, Atlas Swift, Leopard's Leap, Dieu Donné, Cape Chamonix and the Pigcasso sanctuary. Cape Chamonix's lodge was destroyed in January 2026, so check what is open there.
- Orange (Simondium): Boschendal, Plaisir de Merle, Babylonstoren (entrance fee extra), Baccō, Vrede en Lust, Noble Hill. At Vrede en Lust, the Savoye restaurant is closed to the public from 12 October 2026 to 16 May 2027.
- Green (Helshoogte and Simondium): Plaisir de Merle, Vrede en Lust, Boschendal, Allée Bleue, Camberley, Bartinney, Le Pommier, Zorgvliet. The same Vrede en Lust note applies: Savoye is closed to the public from 12 October 2026 to 16 May 2027.
Price: hop-on is R350 per person adult (2026), transport only; estate tastings cost R60 to R260 per person extra (2026). Inclusive Tram days (Flavours of the Vine from R1,900, Curated Wine Experience from R2,800 and Exceptional Wine & Cuisine from R3,500, all per person, 2026) include tastings and food.
Lines, timetables, terminals, child prices, group bookings and the Cape Town transfer add-on are all in our Franschhoek Wine Tram guide.
Tuk-tuk wine tours
Tuk Tuk Franschhoek runs private, open-air tuk-tuks for up to four, collecting from your Franschhoek accommodation. On the hop-on products you choose estates from a pool of around twenty (including Cape Chamonix, where the lodge was destroyed in January 2026, and Mont Rochelle, where tastings have been at Miko during construction and the Country Kitchen is being refurbished).
- Half Day Hop on Hop off: from R350 per person (2026), three estates, transport only.
- Full Day Hop on Hop off: from R470 per person (2026), four estates plus a bonus hour, transport only.

Because Mont Rochelle's Country Kitchen is being refurbished, confirm where lunch will be served.
