Beach and Winelands Wedding Weekends in the Western Cape
Combine sea and vineyards: coastal wine estates for your wedding plus a sample beach-and-Winelands weekend for guests. Verified venues only.
Last checked: 5 October 2026
A Western Cape “beach and Winelands” wedding is usually a weekend, not a single plot of sand among the vines. Most couples marry on a Walker Bay or Hemel-en-Aarde wine farm, then send guests to Hermanus beaches, cliff paths or the lagoon — or reverse the order with a coastal welcome and a vineyard ceremony inland.
How we checked this
This list uses only Walker Bay wine farms from our outer audit where `hosts_weddings` is yes or limited and official `source_urls` exist. We skip unknowns, Elgin, Bernheim, Solms-Delta, Constantia Glen and Sumaridge. Honest note: unless the audit records ocean, lagoon or waterfront language, treat the beach as a nearby guest experience, not an on-farm shoreline ceremony.
How venues qualify
We include audited Walker Bay / Hermanus-area wine farms that host weddings or limited wedding-style celebrations. Coastal cues on the audit include Bot River lagoon waterfront, distant coastline, Hemel-en-Aarde valley near Hermanus, and Stanford / Klein River settings within easy drive of Walker Bay beaches. Inland Franschhoek or Stellenbosch farms are not listed here simply because guests could day-trip to the sea.
Verified Walker Bay wine farm venues
Lagoon, waterfront and clear coastal angles
Benguela Cove. Lagoon, vineyard and mountain views on a Bot River lagoon waterfront estate with private, controlled-access grounds. Restaurant reception capacity audited around 180, with lawn marquee options for larger numbers. Pricing on enquiry. This is one of the clearest wine + water settings on the audit — still confirm whether vows face the lagoon or a vineyard lawn.
Wildekrans. Vineyards, orchards and Botrivier vistas; cottages on the Botrivier with mountain views. Harmonie seats about 140 with dance floor (about 155 with dance floor on lawn); weddings up to about 150 or larger on enquiry. Official 2025/6 wedding package PDF — prices on request. All nine cottages must be booked for weddings (exclusive cottage block). Beach time remains a Hermanus / coastal outing unless you add a separate shoreline permit.
Moya’s Vineyard (Limited). Exclusive-use villa in Hemel-en-Aarde with Farmhouse + Barn; gatherings up to about 40. Views across vines to mountains and a distant coastline. Intimate weekend buy-out energy; ocean is a vista cue, not a guaranteed on-lawn beach ceremony.
Hemel-en-Aarde and mountain-valley wine farms (Hermanus weekend)
La Vierge. Sweeping Hemel-en-Aarde Valley views; exclusive-use venue hire included in wedding packages; flexible indoor/outdoor seating around 120. In-house culinary team; no external caterers. Pair with Hermanus beaches 15–25 minutes away depending on traffic and exact beach.
Arcangeli. Vine-covered hills at the foot of the Hottentots-Holland with mountain-peak views; exclusive venue and chapel access. About 60 indoor (+20 outdoor). Venue hire from R25 000 VAT inclusive (2026). Excellent for a vineyard Saturday after a Friday cliff-path walk in Hermanus.
Spookfontein (Limited). Hemel-en-Aarde hills overlooking Cape-fold mountains, fynbos and vines; hosts about 40–80. Confirm current wedding packaging. Strong “valley near the sea” story for destination guests.
Bosman Hermanus (Limited). Upper Hemel-en-Aarde panoramic fynbos and vineyard views; Sunroom exclusively bookable for special events (about 30). Limited wedding evidence — treat as small celebration / functions-led unless the estate confirms a full wedding.
Beaumont (Limited). Early-1900s barrel cellar with garden and Overberg views; cellar lunches/dinners about 60. Limited wedding framing — confirm whether your date is a full wedding or a private cellar celebration.
Stanford, Bot River and Klein River (easy beach day-trips)
Stanford Hills. Weltevrede Farm with vines, olives and fynbos near Stanford; historic Manor House. Special functions up to about 100. Stanford village and nearby Walker Bay beaches make a gentle Sunday for guests after a Saturday wedding.
Boschrivier. Venue page explicitly lists a small wedding; capacity about 100. Outside caterer required. Setting details sparse on audit — ask about lawn aspect and drive times to Hermanus or Pearly Beach routes you care about.
Stanford Valley. Large Klein River valley farm with views to the Akkedis mountains; celebrations copy invites taking over the entire farm. Capacity and prices unpublished on audit — enquire for exclusive-weekend feasibility.

Sample three-day beach and Winelands itinerary
Friday — arrive and breathe sea air. Guests fly into Cape Town International, transfer to Hermanus or Stanford (allow 1.5–2.5 hours depending on traffic and exact farm). Sunset cliff path or Old Harbour stroll; seafood welcome dinner in town or a private farm table if your exclusive hire has started.
Saturday — marry among vines. Morning leisure (lagoon paddle at Benguela Cove’s neighbourhood, or beach time at Grotto / Voëlklip if your planner budgets the transfers). Afternoon ceremony on the wine farm; reception into the evening. Keep guest transport tight — see wedding guest transport in the Winelands.
Sunday — soft coastal goodbye. Brunch on the farm or in Hermanus; optional whale-season lookout (June–November peaks) or a lagoon walk. Depart for Cape Town via scenic Clarence Drive if energy allows.
Drive times are indicative only; build buffers for mountain passes, wedding convoys and summer wind.
What “beach and Winelands” usually means in practice
Search results sometimes imply a single estate with vines in the front yard and surf in the back. On audited Walker Bay wine farms that is rare. More often you are choosing among three honest patterns:
1. Lagoon or river waterfront wine estate — Benguela Cove’s Bot River lagoon language is the clearest example; Wildekrans adds Botrivier cottage stays. Water is part of the farm story, but it is still not a municipal swimming beach with lifeguards. 2. Hemel-en-Aarde valley wedding + Hermanus leisure — La Vierge, Arcangeli, Spookfontein, Moya’s and Bosman sit in mountain-vine country a short transfer from Walker Bay’s town beaches, cliff paths and harbour restaurants. 3. Stanford / Klein River exclusive weekend — Stanford Hills, Stanford Valley and Boschrivier give rural wine-farm privacy with day-trip access to Walker Bay coastline and Agulhas-direction beaches if your group wants emptier sand.
Spell your pattern in the first enquiry email. Farms then know whether to quote a single-day hire, a two-night cottage block, or introductions to beach-ceremony permit holders.
Guest logistics and weather reality
Walker Bay weekends fail when transport and wind are afterthoughts. Build:
- One shuttle loop between guest lodgings, ceremony lawn and town beach stops — random Uber reliance frays after dark on farm roads.
- A wind call time (often early afternoon) with authority to move vows under cover. Cellars and chapels earn their keep here as much as in inland Winelands rain plans.
- Shade and hydration for summer beach mornings before a late-afternoon ceremony; May–August guests need layers for valley evenings even after a sunny beach walk.
- Whale-season expectations (roughly June–November): wonderful for guests, busier for Hermanus parking and restaurants — book Sunday lunch early.
If your guest list splits between beach lovers and wine collectors, publish a simple two-track schedule in the wedding website so nobody feels they missed “the real” weekend.
Booking tips
- Say the quiet part aloud in your enquiry: “We want a vineyard ceremony and a Hermanus beach morning for guests — not necessarily vows in the sand.” Farms can then advise permits, wind and timing.
- Exclusive hire helps destination weekends. La Vierge packages, Moya’s villa and Wildekrans cottage blocks keep the group together — see exclusive-use venues.
- Wind and swell. Walker Bay afternoons can be breezy; have a lawn-to-cellar rain/wind plan.
- Catering rules vary. La Vierge and Wildekrans keep catering in-house; Boschrivier requires an outside caterer.

Frequently asked questions
Can we marry on the beach and party on a wine farm?
Sometimes, with a separate beach ceremony permit and a reception hire on a farm. Most couples reverse it: vows on the farm, beach as leisure. Confirm both venues’ timing, noise rules and transport.
Which Walker Bay farms actually face water?
Benguela Cove’s audit language highlights Bot River lagoon waterfront. Others emphasise valleys, rivers or distant coastline. Ask for a ceremony-spot photo facing the water feature you care about.
Is Hermanus practical for international guests?
Yes as a destination pocket: cellar door, beaches and whale season in one weekend. Budget coach or shuttle transfers from Cape Town and between farm and town.
How many guests suit a Hemel-en-Aarde wedding?
Intimate villas like Moya’s (~40) and Bosman Sunroom (~30) sit at the small end; La Vierge (~120), Wildekrans (~140–150) and Benguela Cove (~180+) scale up. Match seated dinner capacity, not only lawn standing room.
Do we need a destination planner?
Helpful for multi-site weekends (beach permit + farm reception + guest hotels). Even without a full planner, appoint a local coordinator for timing and wind calls.
